The Triangle Project
- field report from Bravo

Team Bravo:

Andreas Olsen, student.
Erling P. Strand, MSc. EE.
Akhtar Issak, TV-presenter.

(Please notice: the original, Norwegian reports are much more detailed than the translations below. We have decided to bring an abbreviated version in English at this moment of time. On requests, we will make a full translation later on. The most important facts as for the physical conditions and observations are included in translations below).

Friday October 10th

4:30 AM - 6:00 PM - Climbing Morkavollhogda and establishing camp with a perfect view over Hessdalen.

06:00 PM - Saturday 10 AM: Routine observations and communication tests.

Saturday

10:00 AM - Erling P. Strand leaves the camp to unite with Jan Barwin in Texas. The crew on Bravo is reduced to two persons for the rest of the operation.

3:00 PM - Andreas Olsen and Akhtar Issak decides to move the observation site to a new and higher position, approximately one kilometre from Camp Bravo. Camp Bravo (with the tent and the rest of the equipment) was marked with a phosphor light to enable detection of the camp during the night.

7:00 PM - 12:00 PM: Emergency! Camp Bravo is no longer visible. Texas orders them back to the camp. It is not advisable to spend the night at this altitude with no chance to seek shelter for the wind, the cold and - as it turns out - the snow. Team Bravo splits up, Akhtar is trying to find the camp, Andreas stays at the observation site. The situation becomes critical as Akhtar gets lost in the dark. Andreas identifies himself and his position for Team Alpha ( 12 kilometres away) by means of laser pointer. Alpha has radio contact with Akhtar, and by means of light-amplifying binoculars they can identify Akhtars hand lamp. Thus they are able to instruct Akhtar on the radio, and step by step they lead him back to Andreas at the observation site. We learned a lot from this rescue operation: the communication systems functioned, there was calm and no panic, but first of all we learned: never change a plan or leave each other alone in the dark without the specific consent of the headquarter.

9:15 PM - "Kennedy" in sector WEST 3! Strong, yellowish light over Morkvollhogda.

11:45 PM - "Kennedy" in sector WEST 3! Light ball flying over Lake Oyungen. Moments later the lake is illuminated as by an enormous spotlight.

Sunday

1:00 AM - Team Bravo is alarmed by Team Alpha: snowstorm approaching! Team Alpha suggests that Team Bravo should evacuate the site and try to reach the road i the bottom of the valley. Team Bravo is reluctant, they are afraid to get lost in the dark. Team Charlie succeeds in alarming Texas. Strand and Barwin uses one of the cars and drives towards Morkvollhogda. It is very cold, there´s a fierce wind and it is snowing heavily. The field of vision is very limited. At the same time the storm is hitting Bravo and the only chance to avoid a disaster is to get down to the mountain road. The two members are following the terrain downhill. About 1 hour later they reach to the mountain road where they find the rescue team.

2:30 AM - Instant taping of verbal report of the sightings.

For Team Bravo,

Andreas Olsen
