Elfquest meets... Pink Floyd?

Well yes, sort of... Elfquest #21 (I still think of the original series as Elfquest by the way - the elves may have had several more or less questlike adventures later on, but this was the quest...) had a peculiar centerspread called "By Any Other Name" in which some well-read anonymous joker had matched panels from the series with Shakespeare quotes. (For example: The scene where Leetah and Cutter first meet (and experience Recognition, for those who weren't around at the time) is matched up with this quote from The Tempest: "At first sight they have changed eyes. They are both in either's powers...")

A while later I got the strange idea to do something similar with Elfquest and, of all things, lines from Pink Floyd songs! I looked through the comics, photocopied some panels and matched them with song lines. For several years this work only existed as a handful of sheets with panels cut out of photocopies and pencilled text lines - after all I couldn't just go around publishing Wendy's art without permission, could I? I did show it to a handful of people who did like it, so I kept the thing and did some more work on it every time I got another idea, but finally it was just left to gather dust.

It turned up a while back and I did some cleaning up, refreshing the old glue and other boring stuff like that. Then I started thinking. The web would be a great place to publish this (Well at least I wouldn't need to pay for having it printed...). Just two problems: One, I would need WaRP's permission to use their art, and two, I would need a scanner and preferably color versions of all the art. So what you see on this site is not a finished version any more than the original bundle of paper is; call it a second draft (the paper version was the first) where the art is just indicated for now by white rectangles containing text that describes what panel or panels should be there.
Each quazipanel contains the following information:

Okay, here goes nothing. The different parts simply appear in the same order as they were entered into my collection of pairs. Later on I may make a chronological sequence as well.. (The trouble is some of the quotes are matched with panels from different parts of the series..)

Set your controls for the heart of the Sun!

(WaRP, if you ever get around to reading this I'd like to hear from you, particularly if it's a "go ahead" ;) Alternatively I could make a version for elfquest.com. Also, if someone reading this has a (color?) scanner and access to the old books (preferably in color) I would like to hear from them!)

(Oh yes, I need someone's permission to use the lyrics too I guess, but I have already used them because there's no way I can present the idea without quoting them, is there? (Sure I could say "Panel so-and-so goes with lines x to y from song z on album w, but who would want to untangle that mess?))

(While you're here anyway, check my other sites...)
