Subject: Mailing list? What mailing list?
Looks like I was right when suspecting that few people actually read the
MOTD. For a couple of days now I have been asking furs I meet on the muck
if they are on the mailing list yet, and two so far have answered "What
mailing list?"
The thing is going to need some more aggressive marketing if we are going
to get everyone (who's still active) on it. (We do want everyone on it,
right?) How about this: On Furry (and probably other mucks but I haven't
checked) they have a program called Nag which keeps checking a specified
property for a specified content and keeps reminding you as long as it
doesn't change. Kind of like an unregistered shareware program. ;) It's
generally used for making sure you don't walk outside in your sleeping
morph (What do you mean you haven't got one, you barbarian? :P) and such
things.Suppose we got such a program installed here and had it set up to
watch all players by default (preferably without setting it up separately
for each player!) and keep reminding the unregistered ones, "You are not
on the mailing list! Read the MOTD!" The instructions for how to stop the
nagging (by setting a special porp or something) would be part of the list's
welcome message, so they would have to subscribe to find out. Once they
have turned off the nagging they are of course free to unsubscribe, but
then they will at least have tried it and decided not to continue with it.
BTW, for me (?) and other late joiners: Is there any way we can catch up
on what happened before we joined the list? An archive site or something?
