Subject: Lights! Camera! ACTIONS!

Just came back from another weird session on the muck. Gyro was there - need
I say more? ;)

Okay then, we discussed social actions (hug etc.) and experimented with
making a few, both personal and global ones. (He did the globals of course)
You can check what 'huglike' globals are available by typing 'hug #list',
and making your own actions is just a matter of creating an action and
linking it to #1212. The program is intelligent enough to make the proper
third person endings for most verbs too - "hug" becomes "hugs", "kiss"
becomes "kisses" and even "furry" becomes "furries"! (That last one is one
of my personals - what do you mean you figured that? ;))
The program seems to be limited to making (name or pronoun)(verb)(name or
pronoun) though - I still wish we had the sg-action (social global?)
program seen on other mucks. It lets you set special messages so you can
for instance create an action called shake and when you "shake x" it says
"You grab x's paw and shake it.", "Jabari grabs your paw and shakes it."
and "Jabari grabs x's paw and shakes it." [I also had an idea for that
action which involves letting people who don't have paws set a special
property on themselves and the shake action would then substitute the
content of that property for "paw", so if for instance someone did it to
a bird with the proper prop set it would come out as "You grab Kestrel's
claw and shake it". Silly furs would of course put things like 'tail' or
'foot' in there, and it would of course only be a question of time before
someone put a dirty word in there just to embarrass people who try to
"shake" them...]

Anyway, now that everyone can create social actions, maybe we should have
a SA contest? Maybe set up a "Social Action Lab" where people can come
and create actions either attached to the room or on objects so others can
come over and play with them, and wizzes can come over once in a while to
check the usage counters and make the most popular actions global. <G>
Of course attaching actions to a room would normally require chowning it
for us mortals, but maybe one of the room claiming programs can be used
to create and link an action and chown it to the user? I haven't checked
the docs yet so I don't know how flexible they are...
