********************************** * S t a r O f T h e S t a r s * ********************************** Game 7 - The adventures of Ms. Joanne Doe, Chapter Five.
The troll is quite a friendly guy; even though he does not consider himself responsible for everyone who passes through the junction, there are two things he figures noone can do without. If you have both (see below), just skip down to your first choice.

Otherwise this happens:

"Wait a sec, Miss," the troll says as you start moving. "Let me have a look at
you!" You stop curiously as he moves over for a closer look - not, it turns out,
at you, but at what you are carrying. Or rather not carrying.

If he finds that you are unarmed, another little bit of plot unfolds:
"Feeling lucky, huh?" he continues. Seeing the lack of comprehension in your
eyes, he elaborates: "You're unarmed! Now I don't wanna scare you gal, but this
can be a pretty dangerous place. Guess I must be out of my mind, but I'll let
you borrow this."
He unhooks a dagger and its scabbard from his belt and hands them to you.
"Now remember I'm just loaning'em to you until you get a weapon to call your
own, see? And just for the record, you have to get one before I'll let you
downstairs!"
"Why?" you ask. "Is it that much more dangerous there?"
He shrugs, "Dunno," he admits, "but if you go down you're not coming back up,
see? And then I'd never see my dagger again if you brought it with you! Here on
Level One all routes tend to lead back here, so..."

After attaching the scabbard to your belt he steps back and take another look
at you.

The next part is what happens if you have no money (Yes, he can see that!)
"My grandpa," he muses, "used to say a body feels better with some money on'im.
Or her, in your case. Now I'm not exactly wealthy, but I guess I can spare
this."
After rummaging through his pockets for a a while he tosses you a small pouch
that looks rather light (and feels so too when you grab it), but on closer
inspection turns out to contain a single slightly irregular silver coin - pre-
sumably what is referred to as a Silver Piece.
"Okay so it's just a token value," he grins. "Call it a start on your first
million. At least now you've got something to keep your money in if you should
find any more!"

That's what it looks like if you have not seen this world's money eariler, if you have, the italicized part is replaced with simply:

a single Silver Piece.

The section (which is skipped entirely if you have both money and a weapon) ends

You thank the helpful troll then go about your business.

Your first (and only numeric) choice is whether to search the room or not. This happens if you do:
After a bit of thought you decide you might as well take a closer look at the
room you're in before you go on. When the troll realises what you are doing, he
smiles. "Hey Miss," he remarks. "Know how many have been through here before
you? Think they overlooked something?"
You ignore him and keep searching. A couple of minutes later you return to the
center of the room holding your first "treasure" - a small brass key.
"So you found something," the troll admits. "Think it's gonna do you any good?
Maybe someone threw it away because it's worthless!"

After some more thought you pick a direction and leave the room.

If you don't (and you only get this one chance) this happens:
After a bit of thought you pick a direction and leave the room.

If you haven't lost track yet, the program then branches depending on your choice of direction:

North, East, South or West
